How to Make a Camera Obscura - Part 4

In this part of the tutorial I show you what to do if you want to use your camera obscura for drawing and tracing images and scenes.

Part 1 of this tutorial is here

Remove shroud

Remove the shroud from around the observation hole. Cut a piece of lexan, plexiglas or clear plastic to be a little larger than that hole.

This will be your drawing surface so it should be reasonably strong.

Tape to seal

Tape or glue it down so it doesn't slide around when drawing on it. I prefer tape so I can remove it if I want to go back to just using the camera obscura for observation.

tracing paper

Place your tracing paper over it.

Pencil sketch

Now you can trace the image with a pencil.

Be sure to shroud around the observation port somehow. You need darkness to bring out the image well. Some people even get under a sheet or blanket with the camera, having only the lens stick out. This will make it nice and dark and you can see the image really well.
