How to Forge a Letter Opener: Part 4

In this part of the tutorial we finish off the letter opener by forming the handle with a couple of curves. And curving steel is the final technique we learn.

The beginning of this tutorial is here

The curving hardy tool

We have a lot of options when it comes to curving steel. We can use the edge of the anvil like this.

Curve the steel

And we can use a curving tool placed in the hardy tool.

Continue the curve

And notice here that I have now placed it deeper into the curving tool.

Close the loop

And you can also use the top surface of the anvil.

Use edge of teh anvil

Now I close up the loop by using the edge of the anvil.

Center the steel

Now I finish it off by moving that loop so it is centered on the letter opener. It forms a nice straight line.

The letter opener is complete

The letter opener is complete.
