How to Forge a Spear Tip - Part 5

In this part of the tutorial we finish off the project by attaching the spear head to the spear handle.

Now we see why we left the cone of the spear open a little bit. That was optional but now we close it off. What we are doing here is called burning in.

 

Heat the socket

Heat the cone of the spear. Not to red hot. That is not necessary. Just hot enough for it to be easily hammered.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Insert the wooden handle

I have cut the wooden spear end to a taper. You can adjust this taper for the shape of your spear tip.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Close the socket on the spear

Fit the wooden spear snugly into the spear tip and hammer it in tightly.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Hammer it

And hammer it closed. Nice and tight.
