Make a Scale Model Airplane - Part 3 (Subassemblies)

In this part of the tutorial we look at making sub assemblies.

One of the big things about a kit like this is that you often build little sub assemblies which is kind of fun. This picture from the manual shows the cockpit subassembly you make.

And here it is all built.

Painting the cockpit

And sometimes the instructions will recommend you paint the subassemblies before putting them into the airplane. This is because it can be very difficult to paint these parts once installed. So here I am painting the cockpit sub assembly.

And the sub assemblies will then be glued into other parts and other assemblies. Here the instructions show to glue the cockpit into the fuselage of the plane.

So now I am gluing it in. And you can see that I have also painted the internal part of the fuselage.

Here is a tip. Model makers will often paint some of the parts right on the sprue. This makes it much easier.

Now we glue together the wing sub assembly and the fuselage sub assembly.

Looks good.

 

Assembly is near complete

Okay! We have finished most of the assembly and it looks good.
