Storm The Castle Diorama Part 5

The diorama is really starting to take shape! In this installment we work on the castle part of it by painting the buildings, adding more smaller buildings, paint the walls and glue together a large portion of the castle.

I also have a video tutorial you can watch. It is at the bottom of this page.

The following two pictures shows you what the diorama looks like after finishing this installment of the series. You can see the castle is looking pretty good and coming along nicely.

The diorama

Overview of the castle

There is one important thing to note about the process of making something this large. It is very difficult to reach the center from the edge! So... to help with this we take almost everything off and work on the center parts first, finishing them before gluing them down. We work from the inside to the outside in sequence.

take it apart for space

This picture gives you an idea of what I mean. We took most everything out so we could paint that outside wall and the courtyard. It makes things much easier to work on.

Painting the ground

After removing most of the buildings and courtyard I then painted the ground a base color. In this case the middle and outer courtyards are a sand color.

Painting the walls

Then we want to paint all the various parts including the walls and buildings. Bringing them to what is almost their final color.

We followed a basic process for just about every building and structural unit in this installment of the series. Let's take a look at one building and follow it through. From there it was just a matter of repeat the process for each piece. Then glue them into place one at a time.

NextLet's continue with the tutorial and follow one building through the whole process
