Understanding "Intent to Purchase" and how it can make you more money especially if you don't have any actual products of your own to sell.

There is a free online tool that will show you all about intent to purchase and give you great ideas for what keyword are high in intent. But first let me talk a little bit about the concent of Intent to purchase. This is an astonishingly important little concept that you should give some serious thought to. It is a web visitors intent to purchase. There are millions upon millions of people surfing the web as we speak and they all have very differing goals. But in terms of earning money from this flow of surfers we should take a look at them in terms of how serious are they about buying something. And before a person actually buys something he or she goes through a series of steps.

First comes the idea, of buying something
Then comes the exploratory stage of looking around for different options
Then comes the serious stage where there are price comparisons and serious research
finally comes the stage where the credit card comes out and the surfer is ready to buy
That process is a bit simplistic but it gives you a good idea of what is going on in the process. You can just step back and see how you do this when you are web surfing. And of course there are lots of web surfers who have no intent to purchase at all.

Now, How does this benefit you and how do you use this concept to make your website better, and a better earner of income?

Every web visitor is imporant to you, even the ones with no intent to purchase. This is because you are building a community around your site or blog. People with no intent to purchase right now, will come back to you at some point in the future with the intent.

And of course the people that are ready to buy, (credit card in hand) are extremely valuable and getting them is a goal you should have. They are very valuable to you, or for that matter to anyone with a web presence.

But you as an affiliate webmaster also should spend a lot of time with people in the research stage. This is where you can really shine when it comes to earning a respectable income. And this is why companies offer affiliate programs. You have the opportunity to help people make clear decisions as to what they should buy. You offer your opinion, give them options, choices, and insights. And guide them to the good stuff with affiliate links - voila ! They buy and you get a percentage.

So, how can you tell how serious a web visitors intent to buy is?

You can do some thinking about this and draw your own conclusions, and there is a free keyword tool I will tell you about - It’s a phenomenal help.

But first let’s look real quick at keyword phrases. Here are two phrases:

“How to make a volcano”

“volcano making kits”

Okay, this is a pretty simplistic look but can you see which one of these two keyword phrases has a much higher intent to purchase? One person is specifically looking for kits to buy. It has a much higher intent to purchase. And of course “How to make a volcano” isn’t necessarily that low. This person could be in the early stage of buying.

How about this:

“free volcano making plans”

Pretty low intent to purchase there! This person is pretty clearly looking to not spend any money.

So you can look over keyword within your subject and draw some good conclusions just based on your own intuition. But there is a tool that will help tremendously with this.

Now, here is a free tool that will give you some great statistics on intent to purchase for just about any keyword or keyword phrase. All you have to do is type in the phrase and it will give you a rating of .0 to 1. The higher the rating the higher the intent to purchase. This is a phenomenally powerful tool that you should spend some time with. Go over your keywords and phrases and write them down, and take careful note of the ones with high intent to purchase. And you should make this an every day part of your keyword research. Here is the tool: Microsoft Intent to Purchase tool You will also be surprised by some of the results you get. It will generate great ideas for content you should write and post to your site.

Some Final Thoughts:

What if the main source of revenue on your website or blog is text ads like those in the adsense program? How does intent to purchase affect you? or benefit you?

Don’t you think that your advertisers know about intent to purchase? And don’t you think they place a premium on web visitors that have a very high intent? Of course they do! They very much want clicks from people with their wallets out and are ready to buy. And they pay you more for those visitors. Simple as that. If you get a flow of traffic with high intent visitors your income will go up substantially. And I mean substantially! Everything is tracked in todays web world. Your advertisers know who is clicking through your site and who is eventually buying.

So, as you do your keyword research make sure you take a hard look at the intent tool and spend time and energy capturing those keyword phrases (within your subject) that have a very high intent. It is time well spent.
