How to Make a Viking Shield - Part 2

In this part of the tutorial we continue making the shield.

Part 1 of this tutorial is here

Place the handle

Make a Handle template. It goes all the way across the shield and it is thinner in the middle where you will grasp it.

Detail of the handle

Glue the handles

Glue those handles on the shield. Cover the seam between the pieces of foam board. This will give it added strength.

Make an edge

Now let's make a one inch band around the edge of the shield. Use the leftover foamboard.

Use sheild as a template

Use the shield itself as a template to draw your lines.

Draw itout one inch

Make it a one inch wide band.

Glue edge on shield

Glue it around the edge of the shield. Make enough of it to go all the way around the shield.

Now glue the boss over the hole in the shield.

Glue the edge Glue on the bowl

NextLet's finish it by painting it

Viking hand axeCold Steel Viking Hand Axe -

This classic, historically inspired fighter promises to be a popular and welcome addition to the already hugely successful line of Cold Steel tomahawks and axes. A design collaboration between Lynn C Thompson, Dave Baker and Rich McDonald, the Viking Hand Axe brings together a stout 30" American Ash handle, an extra broad, sharp cutting edge, a hooking "beard", and up-swept thrusting "horn" to make a formidable fighting axe that would be the pride of any Viking's collection!
