How to Make the Batarang!

This is a fun and very easy project. It is the Batarang from Batman. And all you need is a sheet of foamboard or cardboard. I give you the template that you can print and cut out.

If you have the materials you can do this project in one hour.

The template is here: Batarang Template

I also have a video tutorial at the bottom of this page.

Here is the completed project

The batarang

Batarang

Can you make this batarang? You sure can!! This is one made by Rachel for her nephew Hal who is a big fan!

And Rachel took the batarang a step further by asking a welder friend to make some out of steel! Here they are!

Steel batarang

You don't need a whole lot of supplies for this project. Just a sheet of foam board (or cardboard), some plaint and some glue. I use glue gun for this. It is very fast and very easy.

Print up the template (here) and cut out the six pieces. You can see them in this picture. Tape together the two bat wing pieces so they are the way you can see here.

There are two wings (then taped together), two disks, and two bats.

Place those pieces on your foam board or cardboard and trace them. Then cut out the shapes.

Glue the disk right into the spot shown.

Repeat this process on the other side of the bat.

Then glue the bat onto the center. And then of course do this on the other side of the bat.

Now Let's Paint it!

Paint the whole thing black. I used a latex based spray paint. That's the easiest and looks great but you can use any type of paint that you have.

Now to get the sharp edge paint on the batarang you mask off the edge sections. Then spray paint those exposed areas silver or white.

Here is a closeup of the edge of the batarang. You can see the painted edge.

The only thing remaining is to paint the bat yellow. And you are done!!!
