Make the DragonAge Inquisition Helmet - Part 4

In this part of the tutorial we continue working on the helmet.

Part 1 of this tutorial is here

Mod podge the strip

We have made the major part of the helmet. Next we will do some detail work. Before we do that you can seal it and strengthen it with mod podge. (optional).

The dragonspine ornament

Now let's add the dragonspine ornament that goes down the center of the helmet. This is the piece in the template. Cut it out and trace it onto cereal box cardboard. Make fourteen of them. You may need less or more depending on how you mount them.

And take note of the dotted line down the center of the design.

Score along center line

Draw that dotted line also down the center of the fourteen pieces. And score those lines with a sharp knife. This cuts the cardboard but not all the way through.

Bend ornament into shape

Now you can bend it into this shape.

Cut out dragonhead

Next we will do the dragon head ornament that goes on the front of the helmet.

Cut the shape out of the template and trace it onto cereal box cardboard.

add bulk to dragon head

Now beef out the dragon shape with rolled and crumpled newspaper. Shape it and seal it with masking tape.

Tape it and shape it

It looks great!

Glue dragon ornament onto helmet

Glue it centered on the front of the helmet.
