Make the Sword Zar'roc from Eragon: part 2

In this part of the tutorial we continue with the building of the Zar'roc sword.

Part 1 (the beginning) of this tutorial including video Is here

Cut out the two dragon hilt patterns and glue them down to foamboard then cut them out.

Then glue those pieces to the sword.

Optionally you can go ahead and sandpaper the edges and sides of the sword to smooth it out and make it look more like metal. Your two layers of foamboard probably don't match exactly so sanding the sides will even that out.

Painting the Sword

You have options when it comes to painting. But this is the color scheme of the sword in the book and movie. The Blade is red. You can use brush on paints or spray paints. Notice how I masked off some of the handle to prevent over spray onto that part.

Paint the blade red

If you want you can add the fuller (blood groove) along the length of the blade, with a marker. Use a ruler or yardstick to get the lines nice and straight.

Paint between the horns and the handle black.

Optionally you can touch up the dragons with silver or gray paint.

Add strapping marks to the handle so it looks like it is wraps of black leather.

Do not paint the pommel for now.

Next Ok, now all that remains is to make the jewel for the pommel. I show you two different ways to do this. Continue with the tutorial
