When I was a kid

It is a bit strange how time flies. I am an adult now. Have been one for a while :) But I very much remember how much I wanted to launch rockets when I was a kid. I don't remember how I learned about it but I think it might have been in magazines like Boys Life.

Boys Life

I am not sure but I sure do remember that magazine. There were always lots of great articles, projects and subjects in that magazine.

I never did get to build and launch rockets when I was a kid and I don't remember why. Maybe my parents thought it was too dangerous. Or maybe I never asked. Well, that was a time gone by. And it really is a great thing that as we grow up we get to do those things. Now I have the time and the money to make/launch rockets.

And one thing that is surprising to me is how cheap the hobby is. You can do the whole thing for around 35 dollars. Yup. that will get you everything. And for some reason I think this is so cheap. Maybe when I was a kid 35 dollars was a lot of money, and I guess that is true.

Now that I have grown

And now that I have grown I am able to experience model rocketry. And share it with my sons. It's something that is really special to me. This is an old picture and there are a few years between then and now but it was special and I still enjoy rocketry.

I guess I am trying to say that if you have been thinking about doing something like this then you should just go for it. It is an inexpensive hobby and a whole lot of fun. And if you have children it will be something they will remember.

I have selected some basic stuff for you to look over. There are a few kits that give you everything except the engines that propel the rockets.

This set includes the launch pad and two rockets. You will need to also buy engines and some AA Batteries. You get to have some fun putting the rockets together too.

The Tandem X Rocket Kit

Tandem X Launch Set Estes Rockets This kit comes with complete materials for two rockets and the launching pad. In order to use these rockets you do need to purchase some additional items and you will need a few basic tools. I have a tutorial right here on this site that takes a good look at this kit.
