I used your template and cut the pattern out a piece of scrap lumber I had laying around and used plasti dip on the handle which works great. On the pomel and cross guard I made a mix of sawdust and wood glue then brushed the paste on and let dry and then sanded lightly. I gives a really cool rough forged metal look. I then painted with hammered metal paint.

He tells us about the improvements he made: the colored material for the guard and pommel is foam from some floor mats I had laying around. Sanded the blade and gave it another couple of paint coats. And rounded a bit the guard and pommel details. Also, I sprayed several thin layers of silver and black paint (while the paint was still wet) to achieve a metallic black finish, kinda iridescent depending on the light.
