A visit to the DaVinci museum in Florence Italy

It's a fun museum and it is very hand's on. It is a small musuem and it doesn't have any original DaVinci's it is a worthwhile trip particularly because is is a very hands-on museum and it focuses on the engineering work of Leonardo.

A humble insight into DaVinci's Annunciation painting. It depicts the Angel Gabriel and the Virgin Mary. There is something very awkward about this painting, it has received criticism for various things. And I looked at it and thought about it a lot. And an insight came to me. Read about it right here.

We are living in troubled times. There are many challenges facing humanity. DaVinci knew the solution to these problems over 500 years ago. I show you his solution in this poignant little cardboard storyboard machine. Watch the video and learn the solution right here: The DaVinci Solution

And you can make a wonderful little cardboard storytelling machine like this too.

Amazing Leonardo da Vinci Inventions You Can Build Yourself introduces readers to the life, world, and incredible mind of Leonardo da Vinci through hands-on building projects that explore his invention ideas. Most of Leonardo's inventions were never made in his lifetime-they remained sketches in his famous notebooks. Amazing Leonardo da Vinci Inventions You Can Build Yourself shows you how to bring these ideas to life using common household supplies. Detailed step-by-step instructions, diagrams, and templates for creating each project combine with historical facts and anecdotes, biographies and trivia about the real-life models for each project. Together they give kids a first-hand look into

Leonardo's Notebook

During his life he created numerous works of art and kept voluminous notebooks that detailed his artistic and intellectual pursuits.

Pathfinders Leonardo DaVinci Aerial Screw Wood Kit

One of Leonardo's most iconic images, the Aerial Screw (also known as the Helicopter) illustrates the ingenuity of da Vinci, and indicates his obsession with flying. While this idea may never have got off the ground, for some basic technical reasons, it gave us an insight into the different ways in which Leonardo considered the challenge of human powered flying, and defines him as an inventor well ahead of his time. While it is often referred to as a helicopter, the premise of the lift to make it rise is more like archimedes screw than the rotors of a helicopter. This model uses one of the bevel gears he drew in his codices and creates a nice 2 to 1 increase in speed of the crankshaft, so the mast spins quickly, illustrating the manner in which this machine would have worked. Kit features pieces that are drilled and pegged for strength, the canopy and support structure are removeable for experimenting, and lots of interesting information about how it works. Kit stands about 15" tall and 9" across.

Pathfinders Leonardo DaVinci Ornithopter Wood Kit

Flying has always been a dream of humans, and Leonardo's fascination with birds and flight was evident in his studies of birds and different human powered flying machines. His Ornithopter design has captured the imagination of people for generations, and we have combined his cool flying machine with one of his bevel gear designs to make a neat model with flapping wings and a pilot with moving legs and arms.

Pathfinders Leonardo Da Vinci Trebuchet Engine

While Trebuchets were common siege engines in Medieval Times, Leonardo's take on the most powerful weapon of the time was unique-his design used one main mast, different from all others before. Based on his drawing from the Codex Atlanticus, Da Vinci's trebuchet was a design likely made for the Duke of Milan in about 1482, to impress the Duke of his skills as a military engineer. While it is not known if it was ever used in battle, you can bring Leonardo's trebuchet to life with this working model! This wooden kit is easy to make in about an hour or two. It is composed of natural untreated wood and plywood. All pieces are pre-cut and ready to go. The parts are pegged for extra strength. Also included are clay balls you can hurl over 4 meters! Kit measures 62cm in height and 32cm in length when complete.
