Portugalia Marketplace

I love Europe and have visited several timmes. And I even spent ten weeks backpacking across three countries there (Italy, France, Spain).

And there is something beautiful about the markets there. They are quite a bit different than the markets here in America.
Except for the Portugalia Marketplace. It is a beautiful Portugues Market. Just like they are in Portugal.

So, you have to experience a little bit of Portugal and check out this market. I absolutely love it.

Here are some highlights of what they have:

  • A cheese shop with imported and domestic cheeses including full cheese wheels priced at $200 and up (picture below)
  • A charcutaria with dried and cured meats
  • A Merceraria (Grocery store) with specialty groceries from Portugal and beyond including olive oils, coffee, tea, chocolates, crackers canned fish and more.
  • A congelados with imported octopus, shrimp, sardines, and more.
  • The largest selection of Portugues wines in all of America (over 1600 varieties)
  • A sandwich shop with expresso, cappuccino, pastries and a variety of fresh sandwiches (picture below)
  • A temperature controlled room offering a large variety of the finest salt cod (picture below)
  • A design shop with a curated selection of fine china, handicrafts, soaps and more.

Look at those beautiful cheese wheels!

And I was very pleased to see they carried Morcela. It's locally made in small batches. I have been eating it my whole life and while on a trip to Spain I had it there too. But this is an acquired taste. If you are not familiar with it the English name for it is "Blood Pudding".

Through the glass is the temperature controlled room with the salt cod.
