The
Letter writing campaign I have embarked on a letter writing campaign to many people of the world asking them what they think the meaning of life is. Read the letter, and read the list of people I have sent it to. See their responses, if I get any. As of August 2, 2005 there have been no responses. |

The

Cabbage and the Quest | |
|

Are we meant to be something specific? And if given the chance can we be something more? | |
I have been spending a lot of time in the garden lately. It gives me a wonderful feeling. I gently remove the weeds. (I feel they have the right to life too, but this is my garden.) It is a small garden but I have a nice variety of plants and vegetables. I am not a big fan of cabbage but I planted half a dozen cabbage seeds just for the fun of it. Most of them took very well and after a few weeks it looked like they were ready to be harvested. They had a beautiful round and full shape. But I just couldn't bring myself to harvesting them. I was just enjoying their presence in the garden. Besides, if I harvested them I probably wouldn't eat them -they would just go bad. So I let them stay and something happened. Within a week of me judging them to be ready they started to sprout in a crazy way. They unbunched and shot stalks toward the sky. These stalks climbed to three feet high! And at the very top they flowered. I was shocked. I didn't know cabbage would do this. After all I had never seen a cabbage like this in the grocery store. What the heck happened? Then a thought struck me The cabbage did what it was meant to do. Most cabbage never gets the chance but my cabbage got the chance so it took it -with gusto. What am I getting at here? I am saying that most of my life I have lived like a normal cabbage. I did the school/college/career thing. I was a good cabbage. But now my life has changed. I am looking for the meaning of life. It is my quest. I am being and doing what I was meant to be and do. Like the cabbage, I am grateful for the chance, and hopefully I will grow tall and bloom. |
