The Beginning & the End Diorama

Here is another wonderful diorama made by Glen and he has a unique concept for it. Let me explain.

A diorama is a moment frozen in time. That kind of is the whole point.

But this diorama puts a nice twist on that. It is one object frozen in two different moments in time. Yup! It is an Austin Mini car both at the beginning of its life and at the end of its life. Kind of cool! And Glen shows us a bit about how a vehicle is treated differently in terms of whether it is new or it is aged.

Glen has made a whole lot of dioramas for us. You can check them out here: Glen's Dioramas

I really did not know what to do with the kit as it is quite a small basic kit, then I thought i could show of my skills if I did half the car in showroom condition at the beginning of its life hence THE BEGINNING and the the car at its end of life hence THE END.

Doing the car in the showroom condition is easy it is a straightforward paint job, however when it comes to the end of the cars life it is a different matter, I painted the car red then i painted half of the car front hood panel a different colour to replicate a replacement at some point in its life and the same with the door. To do the rust I used mig rust liquid and powders, but I also dabbed on with a cocktail stick so model filler to make the rust stand out. I left the light out and wheels off. The figures are the same scale so I sorted them out to find a young couple and older couple along with 2 models. If you look at the couple they have the same colour hair and their tops are the same colour Red and Green.

The shed for the end i made out of plastic card which has a corrugated effect, again I was able to paint it up with rust effects, I made my own Shell decals and used my standard static grass to make the grass.

I suppose the diorama is buy one get one free. I think it is a simple idea and could be done with any vehicle.

Pepper's Ghost Box diorama

Here's a fun project that fuses science with diorama's. In this tutorial we utilize something called Pepper's Ghost Illusion originally created by John Henry Pepper. This illusion which was used in theater, projects a translucent version of a person or object several feet from a glass pane. Pepper's Ghost Box
