Easy projects you can make with paper towel tubes

In this part of the tutorial I show you a variety of different things that I have made with tubes and you can make them too. This will also give you some ideas for unique things you can make.

I also have a video you can watch at the bottom of the page.

You can make an xylophone by cutting different length tubes and suspending them with strings in a box. It is important that they hang in some kind of box because it amplifies the sound. And keep the strings taut. It makes a difference.

Experiment with the lengths of the tubes to see if you can get a full scale of notes.

You can pour lentils or dried beans into a tube, seal the ends and you have a rattle. The size of the tube and the amount of lentils affects the sound.

Some red paint and a strip cut from another tube for a wick and you have a great looking stick of dynamite!

With a few tubes you can also make a sword.

And if you are really ambitious you might want to make something big. There is quite a bit of strength in cardboard tubes when you assemble them well. For this project I used only cardboard tubes, hot glue, and a pair of scissors. It is over six feet tall.

Here is a closeup showing how I used a variety of different techniques to make the Eiffel Tower. I use full tubes, cut tubes and strips cut from tubes.
