Rob and Julia's Spartan helmet

This spartan helmet was made by a web visitors Rob and Julia. My thanks to them for visiting this site and for sending me the pics of the helmet they made. It came out fantastic!!! He does have a few tips for us (below the pics) if you are considering making your own helmet. And if you came to this web page directly from a search engine this is part of my make a spartan helmet which is located here: How to make a Spartan helmet - it includes full instructions and even the template that you can download and print out.

Will:

Your template for the Spartan helmet is awesome and I hope I have done justice to your vision. Attached are two photos:

  • Side shot of Spartan helmet
  • 3/4 shot of Spartan helmet

I think my only goof is using quick-drying flat black spray paint. It dries TOO fast! Thus forcing me to re-apply the gold spray paint to cover up the black spillage.

Also, I used thicker cardboard (from U-Haul moving boxes, same stuff I used for the rim of the shield) rather than the cereal boxes you suggested because I found the paper mache was warping the supporting base cardboard too easily, especially when it dries. After all, I'm in Arizona! J

The helmet was done by myself (Rob) and my wife, Julia, this time around. Julia says it'll make an awesome addition, along with the Spartan shield, to the media room where we keep our movie stuff while Chance (Their son)says it'll be a great Halloween costume (Yeah, right, like I'm gonna get myself into "300" shape to parade in public with that gear!).

Chance expects me to work on the spear next.Which I WILL do.Of course, I'll send you photos when that's done.

Thank you so very much again for sharing your expertise online.

I know that last sentence sounds like overkill but, seriously, I couldn't have done it without you.

-Rob V.
