A look at a spectacular home made castle

This is an amazing castle made out of paper and cardboard. It was built by Elaine F. for her 5 year old granddaughter. My thanks to her for making this castle and for sending me the pictures!

Elaine characterizes this castle as a storybook girly castle with kitty cats and golden door handles. And there is a scary staircase for a princess! (picture of the staircase is below). She plans on continuing the work on it by adding a drawbridge, moat and roof garden.

If you want to build a paper castle I have a complete downloadable print out with tutorial and other resources right here

Here are some tips she has for us when it comes to building a castle like this:

  • She got the graphics all free on the internet and the stonework is from this website: www.photos.creativeuncut.com/digital/texture-stone-block-wall.jpg
  • The Fireplace was crafted with aquarium stones and clay that can be baked in the oven (nice!)
  • She built it very modular so it can be easily taken apart, stored, and reassembled. (pic below)
  • To make the various pieces flat she pressed them under books and various objects; sometimes this took days!
  • It is a replica of Mount St. Michael in Cornwall, Great Britain.

So, Let's take a look at some of the pictures!!!

RESOURCES

Make This Model Medieval Castle (Usborne Cut-Out Models) I was given this project as a gift and thoroughly enjoyed it. You need to have some paper working skill to make it come out really good. I used a little too much glue when attaching the parts to the base so the base came out just a little wrinkled. When you do a project like this always be sparing with the glue. The subtle colors of this model are really nice.
