Kentucky Castle - Part 3

I am on a quest to build my own castle. And I am traveling America to learn about, and from, other castles.

What have I learned from this castle?

This castle is a business. It earns money. Whether or not it makes a profit is something I don't know or can't know. But it does make money. And it does it in several different ways.

It offers tours of the castle. People come and pay an admission price just to get a tour of the castle. I did! It happened on a weekend so it is probably just a weekend thing. There were quite a few people with me when I toured. Maybe 40 or 50. But this isn't really about generating income. This is more about marketing. Getting people to come to the castle, have a good experience, and see what the castle has to offer. It's a pretty good strategy.

By their website they have three major avenues of income: Hotel, Restaurant and Event. Le'ts take a look at these three things

1. Hotel:

This is an upper scale place. It has positioned itself for a market with a higher income level. It is not a motel. It is an upscale hotel. A quick look at the rooms for the next couple of months they vary from $265 to $695 a night with weekends and holidays being the higher priced.

2. Restaurant:

This is a big offering they have. And the menu is priced in the bit higher range. But this is correct because the offerings are things like lamb with au poivre sauce and Blacks Raspberry and Pumpkin Seed Salad. So, the price range of the menu is appropriate with what the hotel range is. As part of the castle they have something called "Castle Farms". This is where they are currently cultivating their own gardens so they can offer extremely fresh and local ingredients for their restaurant. I love this. It makes the castle more useful.

3. Events:

I believe this is a big deal and solid money maker. But I am not sure. I don't have any experience with event planning. But I think it is probably good. And, thematically they can do some things that you can't pull off without a castle. In other words the castle itself is part of the event. A good example of this is wedding events that they have. Another example is a series of concerts at the castle.

There is simply a whole series of creative events including A murder mystery theatre at the castle. It's called "Murder Mystery at Kentucky Castle". And another event called "A Fairy Tale Tour with Castle Princesses". Then there is a ballroom dancing event, an oil painting event and well... you get the idea.

In Summary:

Okay, Here is the thing. A castle in centuries past was the vibrant centerpiece of a commmunity. People visited and stayed overnight, people ate there and people attended events there. And this is what Kentucky Castle has done. It has captured this spirit. At Kentucky Castle you can stay the night, you can eat, and you can attend events. It's all pretty terrific!
