Looking for examples of dioramas so you can make one yourself? Here are some examples (With Pictures and tutorials) of dioramas I have made. Hopefully they will inspire you to make some terrific dioramas of your own.

These dioramas run the gamut from simple, yet creative, shoebox dioramas to a very extensive seven foot long medieval style diorama that has a castle with real lighting and a working waterfall. Whatever your skill level is I hope you find these examples of my work to be inspiring in your diorama pursuit.

Note too that all of these dioramas I have made come with a complete tutorial on how to make one yourself.

Paper Mache Diorama

Don't have the materials for a diorama? You can make one out of paper mache which is just flour and water. I show you how in this tutorial where I make a scene from the Lord of the Rings Castle Helms Deep. How to make a paper mache diorama

This tutorial, which includes a video, shows you types of foam, good and bad foam, the tools used, including regular tools and hot wire tools. Spartan Miniatures

The Battle of Thermopylae I am currently working on a diorama of the Battle of Thermopylae where the 300 Spartans made their last stand. I have also transformed it into a tutorial that shows all the basics of how to make a diorama. It is not complete yet but there is quite a bit of great diorama making information there. Shoebox Diorama of a knight and dragon

Shoebox diorama that is suitable for most ages. It has a dragon that breathes fire and a knight. A couple of nice things about it is that the dragon appears to be suspended in mid-air. Ocean Diorama Ocean Diorama - This is one of my favorite projects. It uses a cookie tin to simulate a porthole which is a nice addition to the ocean theme. Fun Project Tutorial is here

 

 

Firefly dioramaFireFly Diorama - this diorama takes a bit more skill because it uses tiny light emitting diodes that blink (these are the fireflies). But it is a nice and unique diorama - Tutorial here

 

 

 

 

 

A cemetary Diorama
This is a nice spooky diorama with gravestones, a creepy fence and a small mausoleum. I show lots of tips on using everyday materials like popsicle sticks and toothpicks. I also have a video with this tutorial. Cemetary Diorama

 

 

A Wizards Tower Diorama that I also made a video game of! This is a tutorial on using foam to make dioramas. Here is where the tutorial starts and here is the video that also shows about a minute of footage with me playing the video game. I have to get into the tower, get the fire staff, and slay the dragon.! Fun, multi-discipline project.

 

 

 

 

 

RainForest DioramaRainforest Diorama - This is a nice learning tool. The construction of the diorama helps explain the unique environment of the rainforest - Tutorial here

 

 

 

 

 

 

Shadowbox DioramaShadowbox Diorama - A shadowbox is an enclosed container that you usually hang on the wall. It is only an inch or two deep. This diorama is a multi level dungeon with a group of warriors and a couple of Orcs. Nice Project and a really creative idea when it comes to dioramas Shadowbox diorama tutorial is here

 

 

 

 

Artist's DioramaAn Artist's Diorama - This diorama takes an artists painting and transforms it into a diorama. Kind of a best of both worlds or breathe a painting into life kind of project - More information here
