When you are painting or drawing an object you are not just painting or drawing the object! You are also showing the effect of light and dark on the object! This is shown well in this painting. How would this look if the artist didn't put in the black shadows both inside the blade and underneath the blade? How would it look if the artist didn't pay particular attention to the white highlights? Always pay careful attention to the light and shadow in your painting just as was done here.
