Tiny Bottle Terrariums

This is an adorable little terrarium project. These are really tiny terrariums and some of them can be hung on chains as necklaces. They are tiny apothecary jars.

And you would be surpised to know that the plants can do very well inside and stay healty for a very long time.

At the bottom of this page are the listings for these tiny bottles I bought to make these.

Here are the tiny terrariums that we make. That is a dime to show you the scale and size.

The tiny Terrariums

Here are the various supplies that we used. The things from left to right are sphagnum moss, garden charcoal, tiny pebbles and then the container of potting soil,.

Most of this is very flexible you can use some of these or just potting soil.

Supplies and tools

broken bottle

One thing to note before starting. These little bottles are glass! And they can break. So be careful with them. Especially if you are going to be using sticks and tweezers to work inside them.

add charcoal

Put a little bit of the garden charcoal in there. This will keep the moisture clean and pure. It acts like a filter for the terrarium.

Add sphagnum moss

Then add some sphagnum moss. This will keep the charcoal and the soil separated.

tamp it down

Tamp it down so it forms a nice thin layer.

Add soil

Now go ahead and add a layer of soil. This probably made the glass dirty so.....

clean the glass with a q tip

You can clean the glass with a Q tip!

various moss

Now the plants can be a variety of mosses. You can look at them and see how they can be easily separated into small segments. You can pull small pieces right off.

add a plant

Insert one of those segments into the terrarium and press it down into the soil.

use tweezers

Tweezers are a big help for placing the plant and getting it straight and firm in the soil.

water it

Be sure to spritz a little water in there before corking it closed.

the terrarium is done

Your Tiny terrarium is done.
