Carnivorous Plants
Carnivorous Venus Fly Trap Plant Nature provides this remarkable plant with "traps" to lure and capture it's food. The traps are covered inside by tiny hairs and a sticky sweet smelling substance attractive to insects. When an insect touches the trigger hair, the trap is activated and closes around it's victim. After digestion of it's meal (whick takes several days), the trap will open again for a new catch. PLANTING AND CARE: Keep moist at all times, rainwater or distilled water are preferred. Plants should not be fertilized (so therefore should be separated from your other plants). The insects it catches provide natural nourishment. Select a sunny window for your Venus Flytrap. In replanting only use sphagnum! Peat moss will do in a pinch. Put a plastic saucer underneath the plant to hold water and keep it's humidity proper but do not stand in a dish of water.

Carnivorous Purple Pitcher Plant Sarracenia Purpurea -
Purple Pitcher Plant Sarracenia purpurea, The Purple Pitcher Plant is definitely the easiest of all the carnivorous plants to grow and is excellent for beginners. Range You will find these carnivorous plants throughout the southeastern and well into the northeastern parts of the United States, as well as into much of eastern and central Canada, where winter temperatures can go well below freezing. Sarracenia purpurea are hardy, zone 7-8. They can tolerate temperatures as low as 10-20 degrees F. Where to Grow Best grown outdoors as a container or potted plant. Excellent for the sunny deck or patio. You may also grow them in a pond or a home bog garden. Because of their specific soil requirement, avoid planting them in the ground. Sunlight Grow these carnivorous plants in full sun, with a minimum of 6 hours of direct sunlight for vigorous growth. Water Keep the pot in standing water to keep the soil wet at all times. Use mineral-free water for best results. If growing your carnivorous plants in a pond, keep the water level halfway on the pot. Avoid drowning the crown of the plant.
